Surgery

About a month ago I had a little (and when I say little I mean quite large) friend pop in for a visit on the inside of my lower lip, it would come and go as it pleased and irritated the crap out of me when it decided to drop in to say hello. I did some research and realized that my little friend was most likely a mucocele, which is basically a blocked or ruptured salivary glad. I finally came to the conclusion to have it checked out, I made an appointment with my dentist this past Wednesday. The dentist walked in, glanced at it and basically said "yup you need to go to the Oral Surgeon"... now my issue with this is having to take time out of my day to have the dentist just look at my mouth for two seconds and determine that I need to go to an oral surgeon to get it checked... so ridiculous, they should have told me over then phone when I explained my situation to them that they do not deal with those problems and to go directly to an oral surgeon. With all frustrations aside I was able to make an appointment the next day with the Oral Surgeon to get it checked out. I went in thinking he was just going to look at it and determine what to do from there. Surprisingly enough I was correct, it was a mucocele and he asked me if I wanted to get it removed today and I figured why the heck not lets get it over with. He explained everything to me, what he was going to do, and how he was going to do it. I started to get a little nervous as they brought me back into this large surgical room, but I was more than ready to say goodbye to my little guest. The surgery it self only took about 5 mins, he made a little less than an inch incision, snipped out the salivary glad and sewed it back up. I was surprised at how easy and quick it went and thought this would be a walk in the park... little did I know that when the anesthetic wore off I would be in agony! Okay... agony may be a small exaggeration... but I was in pain none the less, I took some ibuprofen and called it good. For the last couple of days I haven't been able to smile, laugh, eat, or talk. But I am glad that my visitor was just that... a visitor.

My gosh, are you feeling better? And I was complaining about a canker sore over the weekend, seriously...

Hey there- Be glad that your dentist didn't do it for you. I used to work for a dentist who thought that he could do it all and tried to. He made hamburger out of lips like that. Sorry that you are in pain. Maybe you could go for the Mona Lisa mysterious smile...
